Description
Nos. 164, 165, and 166 Abbey Foregate is a row of houses, one of which is currently used as a post office. The buildings date from the late 16th century or early 17th century and are timber-framed with a plain tiled roof. They are two storeys high and feature a six-window range. The framing is irregular with square panels and a mid rail on each storey. Each house has a two-unit plan, with central entrances in Nos. 164 and 166, while No. 165 has a doorway to the left. No. 165 has a pedimented canopy over its doorway, No. 164 has a plain architrave on brackets, and No. 166 has a moulded architrave. Sash windows are found flanking the doorway of No. 164, while Nos. 165 and 166 have casement windows. The upper windows are also casements and are irregularly spaced. The roof features four dormers with fretted barge-boards and finials, along with rear and axial stacks.
