Description
The pair of houses at 41 and 42 Abbey Foregate date to around 1800. They are built of brick with a Welsh slate roof. The houses are three storeys high and feature a five-window front, reflecting a single-unit plan for No.41 and a two-unit plan for No.42. The central doorway of No.41 has a part-glazed door with margin lights, set within a pedimented case. It is flanked by four-pane sash windows with flat-arched, gauged brick surrounds. A blind painted window sits above the door. The doorway to No.42 is on the right, with a part-glazed six-panelled door and a pedimented case incorporating plasterwork fan tracery in the tympanum. Each floor of No.41 has sash windows with sixteen panes, all with flat-arched, gauged brick heads. No.42 has a twelve-pane sash window over the doorway and sixteen-pane sash windows on each floor, also with flat-arched, gauged brick heads. The building has dentilled eaves and both gable and axial brick stacks.
