Description
Abbey House is a building dating from around 1720, currently used as offices. It is constructed of brick and features a plain tiled roof. The house has three storeys and a six-window range, with a wide central doorway that has paired part-glazed doors and margin lights set in a moulded architrave, topped by a blind balustrade over an entablature. To the right is a stone canted bay window, and to the left are two sash windows. The upper windows are also 12-pane sashes with segmentally-arched heads and keystones on the ground and first floors, with stone heads connecting to a cornice in the attic storey. The upper windows have rubbed brick aprons and moulded stone sills throughout, with stone angle quoins. The rear elevation is similarly detailed, featuring original wood mullioned and transomed windows on the ground floor, along with two central tall round-headed windows that illuminate the staircase. The building has gable end stacks. Inside, there is a wide central entrance hall with wall panelling and a wide shallow dogleg staircase, which has twisted balusters—three on each tread—and panelled tread-ends.
