Description

This listing describes a group of farm buildings, including a dovecote, enclosing walls, and a mounting block, located approximately 30 meters northwest of Longner Hall. The buildings date from the early 19th century and are constructed of red brick with plain tile roofs.

The layout forms a U-shape around a farmyard, with an enclosing wall to the south. The north range is two storeys high and serves as a cow house with a loft. It features a verge parapet on the left and brick vents in the center. The loft has four circular pitching holes with boarded doors positioned between the first and second, and third and fourth holes from the left. There are three cow house doors in the center, with blocked narrow vents between them, and a window located between the first and second doors. To the left, there is a two-bay open front, and to the right, a large 20th-century door.

The east range consists of one storey and a loft, housing a cow house and loose boxes. It has a stone-coped verge parapet on the right and a 20th-century flat-topped eaves dormer slightly off-center to the left. The loft above the cow houses has brick vents. The cow house on the left features two two-leaf boarded doors with narrow flanking vents, while the door to the right has a rectangular overlight. There are two small windows to the right and a larger window off-center to the left, along with a blocked door to the right. The loose boxes project south from the farmyard's enclosing wall and have three two-leaf boarded doors, two of which have rectangular overlights. A cart entrance to the yard is located on the left, with a roof that continues over it. There is a circular pitching hole in the right-hand gable end and a catslide roof at the rear over small pens with low boarded doors.

The west range includes a two-bay cartshed on the right and a low cow house on the left, which has two two-leaf boarded doors alternating with three two-light wooden casements. The dovecote is situated at the rear of the cow shed and has a square plan, a pyramidal roof, and a louvred square cupola topped with a pyramidal cap. It features a boarded door on the north side. Inside the dovecote, there are nesting boxes built into the walls with wooden ledges, and a central potence with a ladder.

The enclosing wall to the south is made of red sandstone rubble and has coping, a central boarded gate, and a mounting block adjacent to the south. Low curved walls project to the north, forming a roughly semi-circular pound within the yard.
