Description
No. 27 on Saint Mary's Street is a house that has been converted into an office and flat. It dates from the early 19th century, with some alterations made around 1900. The building is constructed of painted brick and has a slate roof. It stands two storeys tall with an attic that slightly projects.
The attic features a pair of semi-dormers from around 1900, which include a boxed 16-pane glazing bar sash window on the left and a small-paned two-light casement window on the right. Both have shaped bases and flank set-back lights that are flush with the wall, topped with a dentil cornice. There is a central brick chimney stack from around 1900 located off-ridge at the front, along with an integral brick end stack behind the ridge to the left and an integral lateral brick stack at the rear.
The front of the building has two windows, which are glazing bar sashes with painted stone sills and slightly-segmental heads. The central entrance features a four-panelled door with a margin-light overlight, set within a wooden doorcase that includes pilasters with Corinthian-type capitals and an entablature with a dentil cornice. The attic storey may have been added around 1900, as indicated by a break in the design. This building is included for its group value.
