Description

The temple, located 160 metres east of Millichope Park, is a memorial structure dated 1770, designed by George Steuart as a cenotaph for the More family. It is built from ashlar stone and features a leaded domed roof. The exterior is a cylindrical shape set on a circular base, adorned with eight Ionic pilasters and eight Ionic columns that support a plain entablature and a moulded dentil cornice, topped by the leaded dome. The entrance consists of a six-panelled door framed by a plain surround, with an inscribed and dated plaque above it.

Inside, the temple has moulded skirting, dado, cornice, and a coffered dome. There is an inscribed pedestal memorial that is topped with a statue of a winged cherub holding a globe on a vase, commemorating L More, who died in 1744, and J More, who died in 1763. The temple serves as a striking focal point in the picturesque landscape that includes a cliff-face, lake, and lawn, as viewed from the front of Millichope Park.
