Description

This range comprises four houses, a store, and a hall, dating to the early 19th century. The building is constructed of stone rubble, with coursed rubble pilasters and a simple ashlar band forming an entablature. There is also a projecting ashlar eaves band creating a bed for simple gabled pediments with ashlar verges. Plain rubble stone walls define the rear of the terraced house section. The roof is covered in plain tiles, with integral brick ridge stacks.

The L-shaped layout forms one long side and end of a large open courtyard. A side range includes a single house, known as No. 61 Upper Millichope, alongside stores and a hall. An end range features a row of three terraced houses, known as Nos. 1, 2, and 3 Estate Yard Cottages. The side range echoes the opposite side of Keepers Cottage.

The central pedimented gable possesses a brick roundel and a brick segmental-arched doorway. To the right is the house range, featuring a 3-light casement above a 20th-century casement, with an ashlar segmental-arched lintel. A simple, projecting pedimented gable sits to the right end. To the left are stores with brick segmental-arched openings, with a higher gabled cross-wing to the left end creating a tall brick arched carriage entrance to the courtyard. A 20th-century 2-light casement is set within a stepped pediment over another 20th-century 3-light casement on the end gable.

The rear of the side range has a full-height elevation with coursed rubble pilasters and 2-light casements at the house end, with square openings at the store end. A simple projecting pedimented gable with a 2-light casement above a lean-to, enclosed stone entrance porch, is located to the left end. The side range continues to the right, linking to the terraced house end range, which includes a blank, pilastered section housing a public hall or clubroom.

The terraced house end range has central projecting cross gables on both sides. The courtyard side walls lack pilasters, while the rear side walls are without bands and pilasters. The entire range has been altered to incorporate 20th-century multi-pane casements and boarded doors on both sides. Wide brick arches of the former coach-house remain visible to the rear. The interior has not been inspected.

The range forms part of a group with Keepers Cottage, Dovecote, Barn and Cartshed, representing a complete example of early 19th century estate village planning.
