Description
No. 18 Broad Street is a house that has been converted into a shop and offices, dated 1737. It is constructed of brick and features a hipped slate roof with brick end stacks. The building stands three storeys high with a cellar and has a five-window range. The windows are 6/6 sashes set under gauged brick flat arches with key blocks, stucco reveals, and stone sills that have moulded cornices. Above these, there are 3/3 sashes in similar settings, and the building is topped with a moulded wood eaves and a moulded stone cornice.
The central entrance consists of an 8 fielded panel door and fanlight, framed in a panelled case with a moulded architrave, and is topped with a moulded flat hood and frieze supported by Doric pilasters. To the left, there is an inserted entrance that replaced a window, featuring a 19th-century, two-leaf, 8-panel door in a beaded case, also under a moulded flat hood and frieze on Doric pilasters. The building has a moulded ashlar plinth and a grated cellar opening. Brick pilasters with returns accommodate lead rainwater goods, which have heads displaying the Salvey family crest and the date 1737.
