Description

This house, now a shop and dwelling, dates to the 18th century, with a 20th-century front applied to an earlier core. The front is stuccoed, with imitation timber-framing and plasterwork, and has a Welsh slate roof and brick end stacks. The building is three storeys high with a cellar, and has a two-window front. It features two-tier mullion and transom oriels with octagonal leaded lights; the second floor has a six-light casement element with smaller panes above the eaves, under gables. The ground floor has two canted oriels with coved underhangs, and two margin-glazed 3/3 sash windows in splayed reveals, beneath a jetty with a moulded bressummer on enriched consoles over stucco pilasters. A sign reading "C Hodges Ludlow Foundry" is on the cellar flaps. The right return, facing Brand Lane, has imitation timber-framing over a stucco ground floor, featuring a 6-panel door and overlight in a panelled case under a moulded pediment hood on fluted consoles and plain pilasters. A late 19th-century 2/2 sash window is also present in a beaded case. A further two-storey wing has a 20th-century composite tile roof, roughcast first floor, and stucco ground floor. This wing contains two 18th-century 6/6 sash windows, one 19th-century 2/2 sash window, a small 20th-century light, all in plain architraves, and timber hoods on consoles. The ground floor has an 18th-century 8/8 sash window, a 6/6 sash window, and a round-headed 3/6 light with an inward opening upper casement, under a cambered head. A further range contains an entrance to No.21A Broad Street, recessed in an opening with a cambered head.
