Description

The Knockin War Memorial is a war memorial built around 1921, made of grey granite with raised lead lettering and sandstone. It is located on the north side of the B4396, at the center of the village. The memorial features roughly hewn granite and stands on a square platform. Above this platform is a plinth with a domed top that displays the names of the fallen in a recessed panel on its south side. The raised lead lettering reads: '1914-1918 / FOR FREEDOM AND RIGHT / (Names) / THEY GAVE ALL.' The shaft of the memorial is square in section and rises to meet a cross, which has a hollow circle surrounding the arms, resembling a Celtic cross. A sword is carved in relief on the front of the memorial.

The cross is positioned on a raised, semi-circular terrace that is set back from and elevated above the pavement level, accessible by two steps on the left side. The low front wall and the semi-circular wall at the rear are constructed from irregular blocks of sandstone, laid in courses that match the surrounding field walls, and feature large coping stones.
