Description
Farmhouse, dating from circa 1790 with later alterations. The building is constructed of red brick with a slate roof, featuring coped verges and carved stone kneelers to the left gable end. It has a three-unit baffle-entry plan. The two storeys are defined by a dentilled eaves cornice. There are four unevenly spaced windows; most are glazing bar sash windows, with one horned narrow sash window. Two 19th-century casements are located on the lower right, and plate-glass sashes are present on each face of a canted bay added circa 1846 to the lower left. The entrance is directly to the right of the canted bay, through a flat-roofed brick porch with a mid-19th century wooden doorcase featuring plain pilasters and a half-glazed door with stained glass panels in the corners. A tall red brick ridge stack is positioned directly above the porch. A two-storey lean-to was added to the left gable end in the 19th century. The farmhouse is attached to the left end of Knockin Hall, and may have previously served as its service wing. It is included in the listing for group value.
