Description

A terrace of six houses located at 54-59 Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury, was built around 1850. The houses are constructed of brick with a Welsh slate roof. They are two storeys high with an attic raised over a basement, and have a six-window frontage. The dwellings are arranged in symmetrical pairs, with three-centred arched doorways leading to eight-panelled doors with overlights, accessed by steps. Projecting sash windows are framed by stone architraves, with mullions and transoms dividing the windows. The window of number 54 projects into a small, flat-roofed extension. Upper windows are similarly designed, but lack architraves, featuring flat-arched brick heads. Dormers in the coped gables of the attic have two-light sash windows, some of which have been replaced. The building has a plain brick eaves course and axial and end wall stacks. Group value is evidenced by the consistent architectural style and detailing.
