Description
A house, incorporating a drapers’ guild hall, datable to around 1560, with some framing renewed in the early 20th century. The building is timber-framed with a plain tiled roof. It is three storeys high, with a two-window range, and an advanced block to the right over the doorway. The framing features close studding with twisted shafts superimposed on the vertical elements. The right-hand bay has a four-centred arched doorway to the ground floor leading to a passage, with decorative spandrels and a twelve-pane sash window alongside. Above this is a three-light mullioned and transomed oriel window with leaded glass, and a four-light mullioned and transomed window above that, also with leaded glass. The left-hand gable bay has ogee braces to the ground floor, and two twenty-four-pane sash windows. A moulded bressumer supports a slightly jettied upper storey, which has a six-light mullioned and transomed window with leaded upper lights, and quatrefoil panelling beneath. The gable has decorative timberwork, including a lozenge pattern around the king post, barge-boards enriched with vine scrolls, and a finial. Attached to the front wall is a raised pavement enclosed by a low brick and stone wall topped with railings featuring spearhead finials.
