Description
11 and 12 Lower Street is a pair of houses that originated in the 17th century, with 19th-century extensions. The structure features a painted timber frame sitting on a stone rubble plinth, with additional painted brick and rubble extensions. It has plain-tile roofs and a central brick ridge stack.
The houses are single storey with an attic, displaying two central square-framed bays, each topped with a gable-end truss. The square framing consists of three panels high, with the left bay underbuilt in brick to the first floor. The gable-end trusses include straight tie beams, vertical struts, collars, and twin raking struts. The left bay has a simple boarded door with a projecting canopy, flanked by a 2-light casement window and a small canted bay window, along with two 2-light casements in the gable framing. The right bay features a 3-light casement at ground level and a 2-light casement in the gable framing, both with leaded lights. There is a brick extension bay to the right with a plain boarded entrance door and a leaded 2-light casement. The left and right return gables have casements on both floors. The interior has not been inspected.
