Description
The Shop is a house that dates from the 17th century, with a probable addition from the late 18th century. It features a timber frame with red brick nogging and has been extended in red brick, which is painted on the front. The building has plain tile roofs. To the right, there is a gabled cross-wing with two framed bays. The structure is one storey and attic on the left-hand range, and two storeys on the right. The left range has a dentil brick eaves cornice and an external lateral stack at the rear, while the cross-wing has an external lateral brick stack.
The framing consists of square panels with three sections from the sole-plate to the wall-plate, supported by short straight braces. The front has two windows; the first floor features 19th-century two-light wooden casements, while the ground floor has 19th-century wooden cross-windows with depressed arches. There is a central six-panelled door with a segmental head and a bracketed segmental hood. The cross-wing has a 20th-century three-light metal casement in the attic and a 20th-century four-light metal casement on the ground floor. Inside the cross-wing, collar and tie beam trusses with queen struts are exposed in the gable ends, although some of the framing has been replaced in the mid- to late 20th century.
