Description
The Dell is a cottage dating from the late 17th century, with later additions and alterations. It features a pebbledash exterior that conceals a timber frame, set on a rendered plinth, and has a slate roof. The building has a two-cell plan and is one storey high with an attic. The front includes two late 19th century casement windows in the center, a small window to the right, and a late 20th century casement to the left, along with a 19th century gabled eaves dormer in the center. There is an integral end stack on the right and a similar truncated end stack on the left. Access is through a late 20th century single-storey lean-to at the rear, which is not of special architectural interest. Inside, the framing is exposed in the cross-wall and part of the back wall. There is a large, partly infilled inglenook fireplace in the right room. This cottage was formerly a toll-keeper's residence on the Shrewsbury to Whitchurch turnpike road.
