Description
A pair of barns, now partly used as garaging, are located approximately 20 metres west of Standish Cottage. They date from the mid- to late 17th century and early 18th century. The barns are constructed with a weatherboarded timber frame and have corrugated iron roofs. They are arranged in an L-plan, with the main barn consisting of three framed bays aligned roughly north-south, and a wing of one framed bay attached to the south. The framing features square panels with long straight tension braces.
On the east front, there are two pairs of boarded garage doors on the left and a single boarded door on the right. To the right, there is a lower addition with a stable-type boarded door. The gabled wing projects to the left and has a pair of boarded garage doors on the return front, along with 20th-century external steps leading up to a boarded loft door in the gable end.
Inside, the larger barn has tie-beam trusses with raking struts, while the wing contains a collar and tie-beam truss with queen struts. These barns are part of a small farmstead group that includes Standish Cottage, which adds to their group value.
