Description
The cider house, located about 40 yards south-west of Hellens, is a Grade II listed building dating from 1810. It is constructed of brick and features a tiled roof, with a rectangular plan oriented north-north-west to south-south-east. The building has two storeys and two windows.
On the east elevation, there are segmentally-headed window openings with casements on the ground floor, and central ledged doors for both storeys, with the ground floor door also under a segmental head. A set of tallet stairs with a dog kennel beneath leads from the left side to the upper door. In the north gable, there is a 2-light leaded casement window with a segmental head.
Inside, the ground floor contains a complete cider press and cider mill on the left side, along with about nine pegged bays of triple angle struts supporting the roof. The cider house serves as a storage building and encloses the main approach to Hellens.
