Description
This listing describes a group of four chest tombs located between the south wall of the nave of the Church of St Dubricius and the path leading to the south porch.
The first tomb is for a person named Powell, who died in 1798. It is made of sandstone ashlar and features a moulded base, hipped moulded capping, through balusters to the end panels, and incised margins with quadrant corners on the side panels.
The second tomb is for Philip Winstone, who died in 1774. This tomb is also made of sandstone ashlar and includes a moulded base, hipped moulded capping, bulbous end panels with fluted friezes and medallions from swags, and raised margins with quadrant corners and paterae on the side panels.
The third tomb is for Thomas Powell, who died in 1811. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar and has a deep moulded base, hipped moulded capping with a flat ridge, corner balusters, incised oval margins on the panels, and paterae on the sides.
The fourth tomb is for Thomas Churchman, who died in 1798. This tomb is made of sandstone ashlar and features a moulded base, deep moulded flat capping, corner balusters, quadrant corners to the incised margins of the side panels, and incised oval margins on the end panels.
