Description

The Cottage of Content is a house that now serves as a public house. It likely dates from the 17th century and has undergone later alterations. The building is constructed of sandstone rubble, brick, and timber-frame with plaster and painted brick infill, featuring Welsh slate and thatched roofs, along with brick stacks. It has a rectangular plan oriented northwest to southeast, with a cross gable at the northwest end.

The southwest elevation displays a symmetrical arrangement of windows, with two sets of two and three-light late 19th century and mid-20th century casements. The windows in the gable front are set under cambered brick heads, while those on the right side include glazing bars and top vents. To the left of the gable is a ledged mid-20th century door, and there are two additional mid- to late 20th century doors positioned under a thatched canopy at the center of the main range. The gable features exposed lozenge-shaped panels with a pair of quadrant braces.

On the left side of the gable, there is a mid-19th century lean-to. The northeast elevation reveals the entire timber-framed gable, which consists of four square panels from the cill to the wall-plate, with V-struts above the collar. The first floor of the gable includes two 2-light early 19th century wrought-iron casements. Inside, the building has heavy ceiling beams on the ground floor. The Cottage of Content was previously known as The Mynors or Miners' Arms Inn.
