Description

Bolstone Court is a farmhouse, likely dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. It is constructed of sandstone rubble with a brick and timber-frame and brick infill, and has a hipped roof covered in Welsh slate, with brick stacks. The building is arranged in an L-shape, comprising a main range aligned west-south-west/east-north-east, and a subsidiary wing to the south at the west end. A cellar is present, and the house has two storeys and an attic. The north elevation features an exposed timber frame and has four windows containing 2-light wrought iron casements from the late 18th to early 19th century. The ground floor has two similar windows to the left, and a single 3-light window to the right of centre. To the right of this last window is a panelled door from the early 19th century, with three glazed panes at the top, set under a segmental canopy. A brick lean-to is attached to the right-hand side, with a segmental-headed 3-light casement window. The timber frame on the north elevation is composed of four square panels from the cill to the wall-plate. Interior features, observed during a survey in June 1986, include exposed brickwork constructed in a Flemish bond – this does not appear to be nogging of the underlying timber frame.
