Description
Ring House is a 17th-century house that was altered in the 18th century and was undergoing restoration at the time of the last survey in April 1985. The house features a timber frame with a sandstone rubble plinth and stack, which has been partially refaced with late 18th-century sandstone rubble. The roof is a combination of slate and tiles, with some brick infilling.
The building consists of two framed bays, with two additional bays that have been partially refaced with sandstone, aligned in a north/south direction. There is a central axial stack, and the entrances, which were formerly central, consist of two for each pair of bays. A 20th-century extension is currently being constructed to the east.
The house is two storeys tall. The west front shows the skeletal frame of the two northern bays, which have indeterminable former openings. The two southern bays to the right feature half-dormers with 2-light casement windows. Below these, there are two openings with segmental brick heads. The large central axial stack was formerly equipped with a bread oven.
