Description

The stable block, adjoining wall, gateway, and outbuilding located to the south-west of Kentchurch Court date from the mid-14th century for the gateway and early to mid-19th century for the stable block, wall, and outbuilding. They are constructed of sandstone rubble with sandstone ashlar dressings, featuring part tiled and part Welsh slate roofs.

The two-storey outbuilding, which includes stabling and storage, is positioned immediately to the south-west of Kentchurch Court and is aligned north-west to south-east. It has three windows with decorative glazing and hoodmoulds, along with three windows and three doors on the ground floor, all featuring similar hoodmoulds. The south-east gable end displays a decorative Y-tracery window and battened doors.

The mid-14th century gateway, located to the south-east of the outbuilding, has a two-centred arched head with a label and moulded jambs, flanked by buttresses. The adjoining wall curves to the south-west and may include medieval materials; it encloses the yard to the south-east.

The main stable block, aligned north-west to south-east and parallel to the outbuilding across the yard, is a single-storey structure with a stabling range that includes a projecting porch and carriage entrance, raised verges, and decorative capping on the gables. It features two 3-light glazing bar casement windows on the left with hoodmoulds, similar windows at the rear, and two later inserted garage doorways on the right. A two-storey wing at the north-west end has a pair of garage doors on the ground floor and a roundel in the gable, with a projecting section further north-west that includes a large stack at the junction with the wing and a decorative oriel in the gable.
