Description

This is a detached house with an attached oast house, dating from the mid-17th century, and altered significantly in the late 19th century. The house is constructed of rubble with freestone and brick dressings, likely incorporating a timber frame, and has a plain tiled roof with diagonal brick stacks featuring corbelled-out tops. It is arranged as an H-plan, featuring projecting gabled wings and a parallel rear range added in the 19th century. The main facade has three bays with five-light cross windows on both the ground and first floors, and three-light casements in the attics. These windows are characterised by chamfered mullions and surrounds, brick lintels, and relieving arches. A two-storey square bay is located on the left wing. An off-centre ashlar porch provides access to a plank door set beneath a round-headed arch with impost mouldings. Ball finials adorn the gables. To the right is a two-storey brick oast house, featuring 20th-century casement windows, and a square kiln at the far right, covered by a pyramidal roof. The interior of the hall includes ovolo and bead-moulded beams with converging stops. The two rooms on the right also have stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, and the front room has a stone fire surround with a segmental head. A fine, late 19th-century staircase, featuring pierced arabesque panels, is also present.
