Description
The summerhouse, kitchen garden walls, and ha-ha are located about 50 metres south-east of Middlewood House and date from the late 18th century. The structure is built of rubble and brick with a slate roof. The octagonal summerhouse is positioned in the middle of the north wall, which has return walls on the east and west sides, while the fourth side is closed off by the ha-ha that once featured a duck pond. The summerhouse is two storeys tall with a pyramidal roof. It has glazing bar sash windows on three sides facing the garden, a central door on the ground floor, and a stack at the rear. There was previously a wooden external stair leading to the upper floor, which has since been removed. The external walls are made of rubble, while the interior is lined with brick. The ha-ha is constructed of rubble and includes nesting boxes, likely intended for ducks. Additionally, there are earthwork traces of an extensive system of waterworks to the east and south.
