Description

Stagbatch House is a house built in the late 18th century or early 19th century, possibly incorporating an earlier core. It features a brick structure set on an ashlar plinth and has a steep-pitched Welsh slate roof. The house has two brick lateral buttress stacks and a brick axial stack at the rear.

The exterior consists of three storeys and a cellar, with a seven-window range. The central window is a 6/6 sash, flanked by narrow and broad sinkings and additional 6/6 sashes, all under ashlar lintels with gauged brick tooling. The fenestration is consistent, also featuring 3/3 sashes. The eaves are moulded brick, and there is a central pediment with ashlar detailing and a tablet displaying a shield.

The entrance is central and features a part-glazed six-panel door that is recessed under a moulded stone pediment hood, which has a frieze supported by plain stone pilasters. This entrance is flanked by a narrow light and a sinking to the left, along with four 6/6 sashes, all with ashlar lintels and a stucco band.

To the right, there is a single-storey wing that has a late 19th-century tripartite window with 2/2, 4/4, and 2/2 sashes under an ashlar band, along with a brick end stack. The rear of the house features a porch leading to a six-panel door, which is set under semicircular ashlar arches and a band. The returned sides have blind openings on the first and second floors.

On the left returned side, there is a single-storey wing with a 6/6 sash in an altered opening at the rear. The rear of the house includes a central canted staircase bay with round-headed 6/6 sashes under semicircular ashlar arches, above a 6/6 sliding sash in an altered opening, flanked by blind openings and arranged with tiers of 6/6 and 3/3 sashes, all featuring an ashlar band. The interior has not been inspected.
