Description
House, now a house and shop, dating from the 15th century, with extensions in the early 19th century, and later alterations in the late 19th and mid-20th centuries. The building is timber-frame with rendered infill, extended in painted brick, and has a tile roof. It has an L-shaped plan, with a cross-wing extending to the south, a central axial stack, and a hall range to the east, which was extended in the 19th century.
The north front has two storeys and a jettied cross-wing on the left. It has one window to the left, then four windows, consisting of a four-pane sash and four two-light casements; the windows to the right are set under segmental arches. The ground floor has a canted bay to the left under the jetty, followed by a fixed casement, two square bays with flat roofs, and a three-light casement under a segmental head. A half-glazed door is located on the right-hand end. Another entrance is located to the left of the centre of the hall range, with a panelled door. The hall’s framing consists of two square panels on the first floor. The cross-wing features curved tension braces, with the truss exhibiting two curved raking struts and a collar. The bargeboards have carved tracery decoration. The right-hand return wall of the cross-wing has a blocked window with three trefoiled lights and quatrefoils in the spandrels. A small panel with two quatrefoils is visible on the left-hand return front.
