Description
May Cottage consists of two houses built in the 17th century, with extensions from the late 18th century and some alterations from the mid-19th century and late 20th century. The structure features a timber frame with painted brick and rendered infill set on a coursed rubble plinth, topped with a slate roof. The building has three framed bays aligned east to west, which were extended by one bay to the east in the 18th century. It has gable-end rubble stacks with brick shafts.
The north front is two storeys high and has five windows, mostly 2-light casements. On the ground floor, there is a glazing bar sash window to the left, followed by two 2-light casements and two fixed windows. There is plank weathering over three windows to the right, with an entrance to the left of the fixed windows that features a half-glazed door. Another entrance located between the casement windows also has a half-glazed door. The framing consists of four square panels high.
