Description
The Clock Tower, located 20 yards north of Nieuport House, is a building that likely dates from the mid-18th century. It was originally stables and is now used as a store. The structure is made of brick and features a Welsh slate roof with a lead-roofed cupola. It consists of two parallel ranges with five bays, oriented roughly north-east to south-west. The building has a cellar, two storeys, and an attic.
On the south elevation, there are five window positions, two of which are blind, while three have glazing bar sashes. The lower range includes segmental-headed blind recesses for the cellar. Above the upper range, there is a plat band. Access to the cellar is found on the left-hand return. The central cupola on the ridge has an octagonal shape and features a clock face on the south side.
Inside, the south range has a brick barrel-vaulted cellar. There are remnants of three stalls with 18th-century wainscoting. The roof trusses are designed with collars supported by twin posts that are tied back to the wall-plates. Additionally, there is one three-panelled door, likely from the 18th century, which has been relocated from the former tack room.
