Description

This description covers a group of four headstones located approximately 10 meters south-west of the south porch of the Church of St Giles in Goodrich. The two central headstones date from around 1740, while the outer headstones are from the late 16th century or early 17th century. All four headstones are made of sandstone. The central pair features a scrolled cartouche on a convex inscription panel, with the left headstone adorned with a pair of winged cherubs and the right headstone displaying a central head flanked by elaborate scrolls and edged with egg and dart moulding. The left headstone commemorates William Enoch, who died in 1740, and the right one commemorates John Pen, who also died in 1740, along with his wife. The outer pair of headstones includes a central hourglass motif, with scroll inscription panels that are now illegible.
