Description

This is a house, likely dating to the late 16th century, although significantly altered in the late 19th or early 20th century. It is timber-framed with wattle-and-daub infill to the north cross-wing, while the central range is of painted rubble and the south cross-wing is a later addition, with some timber framing to its east gable. The roofs are slate covered. The house originally formed an L-shape, and is now composed of a central range with flanking cross-wings, facing east. A central entrance with a through-passage leads to a stack on the back wall, and a later axial stack is located to the south. The house has two storeys and a cellar. It features late 19th and 20th century 3- and 2-light casement windows. The north gable has a 1:2:2 window arrangement on the ground floor, with a gabled porch containing a late 19th century partly-glazed door. The north cross-wing retains much of its original timber framing, with two square panels from sill to wall-plate and two queen struts from tie-beam to collar. Traces of ovolo-moulded mullioned windows are visible on the north return. Internally, the house has ovolo stop-chamfered beams. A studded, ledged door with decorative strap hinges, originally from an outbuilding to the southwest of the house (which is not included in the listing), has been resited.
