Description

The Luggar memorial is a chest tomb located about 5 metres north of the north vestry of the Church of St Michael in Kingsland. It dates from the early 19th century and is made of ashlar stone. The tomb features a stepped plinth that supports a chest, which is raised on four pairs of claw feet. The chest has a moulded cornice and a shallow ridged and hipped capping. The east and west faces are adorned with garlands surrounding the illegible inscriptions. The south face is inscribed with "SACRED to the Memory of WILLIAM LUGGAR who died November 24th 1844 Aged 66". The north face reads "SACRED to the Memory of ELIZABETH Wife of William Luggar Junr who died July 30 1830 Aged 43".
