Description
This is a detached bakehouse, possibly from the 18th century, located immediately northwest of Brockbury Hall. The building features painted brick on the front and timber framing with a tension brace at the rear. It has a two-and-a-half cell layout, with the southern part reduced in height. The central cell includes a large chimney stack and an open-fronted hipped extension that houses stairs and a lumber room to the north, along with smaller extensions to the south. The bakehouse has a one-storey garret with one window on the east side, although the entire east front is covered by a corrugated iron lean-to, which is not included in the listing. The entrance is from the extension to the south, where the south cell has been modified to have a flat roof, and the south gable end of the main cell is now boarded. Inside, the cruck truss has had its feet removed, and there is a heavy chamfered floor beam that is halved on the inside, along with a fireplace in the garret. This bakehouse is a rare example of its kind.
