Description
Tan House is a cottage dating from the late 17th to early 18th century. It is timber-framed with wattle-and-daub and brick infill panels, and has an asbestos tiled roof. Originally a two-bay structure, it has later 19th-century extensions to the west of the south entrance and to the north front, which now enclose the original timber frame on two sides. The south elevation has three 20th-century casement windows, and a ledged 19th-century door provides the south entrance. A 19th-century outshut is accessed from the north. A local stone chimney is visible on the south wall, at the junction of the first and second bays. A late 20th-century addition aligned with the north-east gable end has brick walls, an asbestos tile roof, and three bays of uneven fenestration, with a gabled dormer on each front. A stable door and a two-light casement window are located in the gable end.
