Description
These two cottages, now combined into one dwelling, likely date from the late 17th or early 18th century, with later extensions to the rear in the mid-20th century. The structure is timber-framed with painted brick infill panels. The ground floor on the right-hand side is either faced with or sits upon a stone base. The roof is tiled, with two end chimneys constructed of local stone and brick. The chimney on the right has an external bake oven, its roof forming a conical shape alongside the stack. The cottages are one storey with an attic, containing three bays. They feature 19th and 20th century casement windows, along with two 20th-century dormers with raked roofs. There are two 20th-century doors in the middle bay, one with a glazed porch added around 1970 to the rear. The wall panels run from the cill to the eaves. The roof was thatched until approximately 1974. The cottages appear as part of a group with No 1 Barton Cottages and Broadleigh.
