Description
This pair of chest tombs and their surrounding railings are located about 10 yards south of the easternmost window of the south aisle of the Church of St Cuthbert. They were likely created around 1835 and are made of sandstone ashlar and cast iron. The tombs have a simple design, featuring moulded bases and low hipped cappings. The southern tomb is dedicated to Elizabeth Smith Edwards, who died in 1827, while the inscription on the northern tomb is illegible. The railings surrounding the tombs stand about five feet high and consist of diagonally set bars with square corner posts topped with urn-finials.
