Description
Garnons and the upper terrace is a country house and terrace built between 1814 and 1820 by William Atkinson. It was extended around 1855 by Thomas Blashill, remodeled in 1907-1908 by Sir Reginald Blomfield, and partially demolished in 1957. The building is constructed of ashlar stone and features a hipped slate roof.
On the south front, the left side includes a building from around 1860, while the right side shows remnants of the original 1814-1820 construction. The left block now consists of a loggia, and to the right is a three-bay conservatory with large sash windows. This area sits on the upper terrace, which has a battlemented parapet and an entrance to the left flanked by two shallow projections, featuring a massive panelled door.
The 1860 range on the left has two storeys above a basement, which is lit by lancet windows. The parapet is crenellated, and there is a three-storey corner turret on the left. The building has one plus six windows, mostly 20-pane 20th-century sashes under square labels, except for the left window, which has a four-centred head.
