Description

This is a row of houses on Burgess Street in Leominster. The front facade dates to the 18th century, but the core structure is from the 17th century. The front elevation is of painted brick (on number 34), roughcast, and has a steep-pitched, hipped roof covered in Welsh slate. Stacks are located at the rear.

The two-story front presents a six-window range. Windows are 6/6 sashes, with those to the left set under gauged brick flat arches. A moulded wood cornice runs along the parapet, and a central pediment contains a lunette window. The left side has a 6/6 sash also under a gauged brick flat arch, a 20th-century half-glazed door to number 34, two more 6/6 sashes, and a pair of entrances with 18th-century part-glazed 6-panel doors. Six matching doorcases feature moulded flat hoods and a modillioned frieze on panelled pilasters.

The left returned side has two 18th-century tripartite windows with 2/2, 6/6, and 2/2 sashes under gauged brick flat arches. A returned eaves detail is visible. A 18th-century half-glazed door is set under a simple wood hood supported by brackets, alongside a 20th-century casement window. An early 19th-century canted bay contains three 6/6 sashes, with moulded eaves. A rear wing (number 36) is timber-framed and rendered, with 2/2 sashes and two late 19th-century, two/two sashes with cambered heads. A 20th-century door and overlight are present, along with a late 19th-century canted bay with plain sashes and two further sashes.

The right returned side features a tier of 18th-century tripartite windows with 2/2, 6/6, and 2/2 sashes under gauged brick flat arches and a returned eaves detail. A rear wing is of brick construction on a rubble plinth and contains a 6/6 sliding sash and several other windows.

The interiors have not been inspected.
