Description
Grafton House is a house that has been converted into a barber's shop. It is believed to date back to the 14th century, with later alterations. The building features painted brick, timber-frame, and plaster, topped with a Welsh slate roof, while the rear has old plain tiles. There are brick stacks, one on the ridge and another at the rear.
The house is two storeys high and has a three-window range, featuring 19th-century two-light casements set in moulded architraves, positioned between panels with cusped braces. The entrance, located to the left, has an early 20th-century half-glazed door, along with two early 18th-century six-over-six sash windows. The plaster coving is visible at the jetty, and the sills are inscribed with "This is Grafton House."
On the right side of the building, there is a return that shows 19th and 20th-century timber framing, which suggests that there may be an 18th-century under-building of the jetty. The rear of the house features timber framing with brick infill, including a cusped brace and some 20th-century repairs, as well as a plaster-blocked ogee-headed light. The interior has not been inspected.
