Description
The White House, located southeast of Orchard House, is a house dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed of stone rubble, with the render stripped from the front during an inspection in 1996. The roof is hipped and covered with slate, and there are large stone rubble external chimney stacks at either end, with brick shafts; the northern stack is larger and features weathered set-offs.
The house has a two-room plan with a central entrance, and both rooms are heated by the end stacks, with the right room likely serving as the kitchen. There is a single-storey wing at the rear left that has a gable-end stack and a later outshut behind the main range.
The exterior is two storeys high and features a symmetrical three-bay east front, which includes 19th-century 16-pane sash windows set in openings with cambered brick arches. The central doorway has a flush-panel door with glazed top panels and is enclosed by a 20th-century glazed porch. The rear west side has a single-storey wing to the right with a gable-end stack and a rendered single-storey outshut to the left. The interior has not been inspected.
