Description
The Knapp is a cottage, likely dating from the 18th century, with an extension built around 1955. It is timber-framed with brick infill panels and a roughcast finish to the gables. The rear of the cottage is constructed of local stone, and the roof is tiled, with a brick stack on one end and a stone stack on the rear of the left bay. The cottage is a single storey with an attic, originally comprising three bays, now with 20th-century casement windows and three 20th-century dormers. The entrance was originally on the left but is now in the middle bay, accessed via a late 20th-century timber-framed pentice. Inside, there are 18th-century beaded doors leading to the top rooms. Several rafters have been fashioned from bark-covered branches that bifurcate, creating a rustic effect, and are pegged in place. The cottage was formerly thatched.
