Description
Checkley Shop and Post Office is a house that has been converted into a shop and post office, dating from the 18th century. It features a timber-framed structure with a sandstone plinth and stacks, wattle-and-daub infill, and a pantiled roof. The building consists of two framed bays aligned north-east to south-west, with an additional two bays adjoining to the south-west, which have a slightly lower roof line. There is a central entrance at the rear (south-east) that serves both pairs of bays. The building is two storeys high and has four 2-light casement windows, along with ledged doors at the rear. The timber framing is of light scantling, with four square panels extending from the sill to the wall plate. This building is a largely complete example of late timber-framing.
