Description
This building is a barn and attached byre, located about 150 yards east-south-east of Wootton. It is possibly from the 14th or 15th century, with an addition from the 18th century and some alterations made in the early 20th century. The structure is built from sandstone rubble and features weatherboarded timber framing, with roofs made of sandstone slate and corrugated iron.
The barn is a four-bay cruck barn with a three-bay addition at the west end, which has two levels. The south elevation shows a weatherboarded barn on the right, with a wagon entry located to the left of the center. The byre includes a weatherboarded tollet with a central doorway and two entries, one on each side of the sandstone rubble ground floor plinth. The east gable features a double-width entry with a cast-iron glazing bar casement above.
Inside the barn, there are four pairs of cruck trusses. The pair located to the east of the threshing floor has double chamfered arch braces supporting the collar, with a chamfered addition beneath the collar between the braces. The pair to the west of the threshing floor includes a large tie-beam and a cambered collar. The tollet in the west part has raking struts connecting the ties to the principals.
