Description
Nos 53 and 55 on New Street are 18th-century buildings made of red brick with a slate roof featuring gable ends. They stand three storeys tall and have four windows, two of which are blind. The windows have cambered headed openings and consist of three-light wood mullion/transom casements. The ground and first floors of No 53 and the ground floor of No 55 feature late 19th-century canted bay windows with sash frames that do not have glazing bars. The doorcase of No 53 has a cambered head and a flat hood supported by shaped brackets. No 55 has a Victorian wooden gabled hood adorned with fretwork, pierced bargeboards, pendants, and a finial, along with a left-hand round-headed passageway that includes a keyblock and impost. Nos 51 to 57 form a group, with No 57 being a building of local interest.
