Description
The barn located about 25 yards south-east of Cobhall Farmhouse is likely from the 18th century. It features a deep sandstone rubble plinth and a timber frame that is partly finished with woven panels and weatherboards, as well as partly with brick nogging. The roof is covered with asbestos tiles. The barn has five bays that are aligned east to west.
On the north elevation, there are weatherboards and some areas of woven infill on the left side. To the left of center, there are full-height late 20th century steel doors. Further to the left, there is an early 20th century brick buttress at the plinth. The east gable is weatherboarded, while the west gable has brick nogging. The frame consists of three square panels high from the cills to the wall-plates.
Inside, the barn has trusses of three different types. The trusses over the threshing floor feature angle struts that rise from the ties to the principals. The gable trusses each have five queen struts leading to collars, which support overlapping V-struts that create a lozenge pattern. The intermediate trusses have queen struts extending from the ties to the collars.
