Description
This is a pair of chest tombs located about 3 yards south of the south aisle of the Church of St Cuthbert. The tombs date from 1790 and 1847, with the latter created by Jennings of Hereford. They are made of sandstone ashlar. The west tomb features a low stepped hipped capping and corner pilasters, each adorned with three superimposed incised quatrefoils on either side of the side panels, which have quadrant corners. The east tomb also has a low hipped capping and corner balusters decorated with acanthus motifs. Both tombs have inscription panels with incised margins and quadrant corners. The west tomb is dedicated to Ann Prince, who died in 1790, while the east tomb is for Richard Prince, who died in 1847.
