Description
Ye Old Cottage, Street Farm is a house dating from the late 17th century, with remnants of earlier timber framing. It is constructed of sandstone rubble, features some timber-framing, and has a slate roof. The building has two storeys. The west wall consists of two bays, showcasing rebated and chamfered mullioned windows with three and four lights on the ground floor, while the first floor has windows with plain reveals. Above an addition on the north gable wall, some exposed timber framing is visible, including a tie-beam truss with two collars. The north gable wall also has a projecting chimney stack. To the right of the chimney is a chamfered doorway, with a 2-light mullioned window above it on the first floor and an attic window with plain reveals. Part of the east wall has been rebuilt, and to the left is a 2-light mullioned window. In the centre, there are external stone steps leading to a first-floor doorway, and to the right is another doorway.
Inside, the east wall shows the end wall of a demolished timber-framed range that once existed to the east. On the ground floor, there are two principal posts and a rail. The first floor reveals the tie-beam and the lower parts of the principals. The ground floor ceiling features exposed chamfered joists. A timber-framed dividing wall has been broken through, lacking evidence of an original doorway, suggesting that the wing may have contained service rooms accessed from a hall. A stone fireplace on the ground floor has splayed jambs and a chamfered and stopped bressummer.
