Description
The hop kilns and trap-house, located about 20 yards north of Hallend Farmhouse, consist of two adjoining parts. The hop kilns, dated 1807 and 1913, are three storeys high with two windows. They feature segmentally-headed 2-light casements and a dentilled brick eaves cornice. To the east, there is a tall early 20th-century gable with longitudinal ridge ventilators. On the left side, a large kiln has stairs leading to a first-floor entry. The trap-house, dated 1810 and attached to the west, is built of sandstone rubble with a brick dentilled eaves cornice and a tiled roof. It is two storeys tall with two windows, segmentally-headed openings, 2-light windows on the upper left and bottom right, a ledged door on the right side of the first floor, and two-leaved ledged doors on the left side. The rear north wall facing the roadside is made of sandstone rubble with some brick dressings, connecting the hop kilns with the trap-house. Inside, both parts feature pegged king-post trusses. This structure is included for its group value.
