Description

Capuchine House is a house located in Hereford, with origins in the late 17th century and late 18th to early 19th century, featuring a partial refronting from the late 19th century. The building is constructed of painted brick above a stucco ground floor and has a hipped plain tile roof with a brick lateral stack.

The exterior consists of three storeys and a three-window range, featuring late 19th to early 20th century 6/6 sash windows in moulded cases, along with a wider central blocked opening, all under segmental arches. There is a storey band and an early 20th century 3/3 sash window above. The eaves are adorned with brick modillions. The entrance is located to the left and features a 19th century panelled door with leaded lights, set in a moulded architrave, topped with an overlight that has cable ornamentation and a decorated flat hood. To the right of the entrance are two plain sashes with moulded architraves, keyblocks, and sills supported by corbels, along with a moulded storey band. The right side of the building displays two timber plates.

Inside, there is an 18th century dogleg staircase with a moulded string and rail, turned newel, and balusters. The second floor reveals exposed early 17th century framing, a two-panel door, and a plank door. The first floor contains four-panel doors, while the ground floor features a margin-glazed embossed door and screen, an 18th century fireplace, exposed ceiling beams, and both four- and six-panel doors, along with a panelled hall. The cellar has a plank door, is stone-lined, and includes a stone fireplace with a chamfered oak lintel.
