Description
The hop kiln and adjoining building, located about 20 yards west-north-west of Upper Paradise Farmhouse, date from the late 19th century and 18th century, respectively. The hop kiln is constructed of brick and features a truncated pyramidal slate roof, with a square plan and decorative diaper patterns in the brickwork on the east, south, and north sides. The adjoining building, which is likely from around 1724, is timber-framed with brick infill and a corrugated iron roof. It stands two storeys high and has four bays attached to the west side of the hop kiln. There are two entrances on the north side: a ledged door from the 18th century to the left and a double opening to the right. The frame consists of three panels from the cill to the wall-plate. Inside, the building has interrupted tie-beam trusses and curved principals that are tied back to the wall-plates.
